Google Chrome For Linux

I suppose that web browers fall under the web development category. So, about Google Chrome and Linux. Google has been neglecting us penguin users.

On Google Chrome‘s homepage, it is stated that the Google team is “working hard to bring it [Chrome for Linux] to you as soon as possible.” Are they really? I’m not exactly sure. I can see Google’s train of thought here: Over 70% of personal computer users use Windows. Enough PC users use Microsoft products that the term ‘PC’ has actually been modified to mean a personal computer running Windows (like in the PC and Mac commercials). I highly disagree with this, but that’s for another time.

Chromium is the Open Source web browser upon which Google Chrome is based.

It is possible! Check out this link for more details and download. It’s basically a port of Chromium, the open source browser that Chrome is based on, to Linux and Mac OSX. It uses Wine, so, as any other Wine application, nothing is guranteed. The package provided is either a deb (for Debian based distros), rpm (for Red Hat based distros), or sh (for all Linux systems). I download the deb (I’m using Ubuntu) and it installed in about a minute.

I just figured that I’d share this with you guys. I’ve been itching to try out Google Chrome but I deleted my Windows Virtual Machine a while ago. The version here isn’t perfect, but it’s still a taste of Google Chrome. Now I just have to wait until Google releases Chrome for Linux. :)
