Statistics of Web 2.0

A few years after the first huge social network exploded with popularity, Web 2.0 is still growing. More and more social networks are being created, and the current social networks are gaining popularity.

I wonder if there will be a point where social networks stop growing. I use Facebook fairly often, and it seems that around five or so new people that I know join each week. Multiply that by thousands of communities, and you have a huge social network. What happens after everyone uses Facebook, (or any other social network?) Will this ever happen?

Anyway, here are a few numbers:

Statistics of Web 2.0

Facebook

Facebook

Facebook has more than 150 million active users.
Users of Facebook have uploaded over 10 billion images.

All of the figures here are the lastest, depending on the social network. Facebook tends to publicize their statistics. On the other hand, MySpace tries to hide them. I suppose this is because Facebook is doing better than MySpace statistic-wise, but oh well.

I use Facebook and Twitter. I used to use MySpace, but once I began high school my class made the conversion from MySpace to Facebook. I suppose that this is how MySpace is losing the battle. Once people enter high school, they drop MySpace for Facebook. I’ve never used Orkut. It’s more of a international social network (it was created by Google).

I’m going to do a follow-up post to this post in a little while (about a year or so.) Be sure to subscribe to my feed or bookmark this site so you don’t miss it.
