What is the Google Sandbox?

The Google Sandbox is probably the most argued SEO term in existence. So what is it? What is the Google Sandbox?

What is the Google Sandbox?

Google Sandbox is described as the period of time where a new website is being added to Google’s indexes. You will notice out of the ordinary results if your website is in the Google Sandbox. We will talk about a few of these changes in a little.

No one (except for those that work at Google) know if the Google Sandbox actually exists. Google has confirmed that their algorithm may return results that would cause people to believe that there is a sandbox, but they have not confirmed that their is an explicit sandbox. People aren’t really sure of the time that a website is in the sandbox and if every website goes into the sandbox.

What does the Google Sandbox do?

The Google Sandbox will have many affects on the rankings of  your website. Here’s a few:

  1. Decreased traffic
  2. Not as many search impressions (your website doesn’t show up on the SERPs as often)

Overall, you don’t want to be in the Google Sandbox. It will have a negative affect on the search engine rankings of your website.

How to avoid Google Sandbox

It’s pretty hard to give advice on avoiding the sandbox. There’s not much that you can do. Just continue to add quality content and generate backlinks naturally.

I don’t know if every website is in the sandbox (technically, I don’t even know if the sandbox exists). As I said earlier, this is probably one of the most heavily debated topic of SEO. You don’t have to believe in it or think it’s fake. Just remember one thing – if you aren’t getting much traffic from Google with a new website, don’t get discouraged. As long as you are adding quality content, things will get better.
