Starting Blogs with Duplicate Content

Many people take to the idea of starting a blog with duplicate content. This is a bad idea – it will have a worse impact on your rankings that using duplicate content at any other time during your blog’s life.

Initial indexing is important

Search engines will be less likely to index your website if it has duplicate or stolen content. It’s as simple as that. Search engines are becoming smarter and more able to detect these kinds of things as we speak.

The intial indexing of your website is quite important. If a search engine detects enough duplicate content on your website, it won’t be added to the search engine indexes and it probably won’t be for a little while. (Actually, it will never be added to the search engine indexes, unless you fix the content.)

Users will take note

It’s usually not hard to tell when content isn’t unique, especially if someone knows a little about the subject or niche that the content is about. Posts should be informative and personal at the same time.

You want to build a base of users as fast as you can. Publishing duplicate content is probably a good way to NOT do this. Most users won’t subscribe or share your website if it doesn’t seem like a real person is behind it.

After birth, it’s reasonable

After your website has been established, and you have an active user base, publishing duplicate content will probably have less effect on your website. Remember that you should ALWAYS have rights to whatever you are posting. Posting content illegally is a great way to get banned from search engines.

Although, it’s reasonable to post duplicate content every once in a while, you should post unique content as often as you can. There is no replacement for good, unique content.
